Vodice
Vodice Skatepark is the largest concrete skatepark in Croatia, featuring dedicated flow and street areas designed for all skill levels.
The project has a long history, beginning with the local skate club Udruga Mladih Bokon, which advocated for the park for years while organizing numerous skateboarding and youth events in Vodice. One of their members, Val, moved to Malmö for studies, where we became close friends. Together, we developed a proposal for the municipality, and through an intense campaign led by Val and his friends, they successfully convinced local politicians to support the project.
The design was a close collaboration with Udruga Mladih Bokon, an incredible group of skateboarders and friends. A unique feature of the park is a mosaic vortex on the pyramid, created by local artist Tonko Gulin.
The skatepark’s location presented a unique challenge, as it sits on a sloped, rocky hillside with a two-meter elevation difference from top to bottom. To address this, the design incorporates terraced levels, carefully planned to maintain smooth transitions and a natural flow between areas.
At the highest point, the park features a deep bowl with an elevator pocket. Just below, the flow area seamlessly connects to a plaza-style street section, which concludes with a large bank and elevated transition. The main entrance is located along this lower edge, welcoming skaters into the heart of the park.
