Gällivare

The design was led by Marelds landscape architects. The multi-activity house is designed by MGA and MAF Architects.

The main challenge with the project was how to make the best optimal and functional design regarding the already preset floor plan of the space that was not changeable. This rather complicated frame turned out to be a great opportunity for a compact skatepark with many interchanging lines and good flow.  Adaptation to the existing structure resulted in a concept inspired by the river’s flow and nordic lights that are represented in the skatepark’s colour schemes and details.

Following local skaters’ needs and wishes, we designed a flow-street course with the longest side as a back-to-back flatground line with all the core flatground elements; (movable) ledge, manual pad and a flatbar. This part of the skatepark has more open space and offers an opportunity for various movable/temporary obstacles in the future. The rest of the skatepark follows the outline of the space which resulted in a playful and flowy set-up.
